Abstract

Africentric Biblical scholars and preachers transformed the work of Eurocentric Biblical
scholars and missionaries. The acculturation of the gospel into African worldviews brought
about remarkable success. The African preachers’ roles are the resultant effects of Martin
Luther led Reformation which led to the emergenceof African Pentecostalism and so on.
However, it was discovered that there are a lot of negative implications of the protestant
reformation on the vocation to pastorate and religious life in Africa, contextually among the
Pentecostal Denominations in Nigeria, which is inimical to church and national development.
Therefore, this paper Assesses Mammonism among Christian Pentecostal church leaders in
Nigeria. It further investigates into Church leaders’ involvement in extra vocations, Biblical
misinterpretation of ‘prosperity’ and other corruption in Nigeria. This work gives some
suggestive panaceas to curb mammonism among Christian Pentecostal church leaders in
Nigeria. The methodology adopted in this paper consists of socio-historical, interviews, internet
explorations and analytical approaches.
